Vice President of Land and Legal

John has over 10 years of oil and gas land and legal experience and joined SRR in April of 2022.

Prior to SRR, John was the Vice President of Land and Legal at EnCore Permian in Midland, TX. At EnCore, John led an interdisciplinary team of landmen and attorneys and was instrumental in the acquisition, divestiture, management, and development of numerous mineral and leasehold properties across the Permian Basin. John also worked for Legacy Reserves LP in Midland, TX. While at Legacy, John split his time between Legacy’s land, business development, and legal department working on a variety of acquisitions, divestitures, acreage trades, and oil and gas contracts. John began his oil and gas career as a contract title attorney for Apache Corporation where he organized and directed Apache’s title efforts throughout the Permian Basin. Before beginning his career in the oil and gas industry, John was an officer in the United States Navy, deploying to the Northern Arabian Gulf, the Horn of Africa, and the Pacific Ocean.

John graduated from Tulane University in 2006 with degrees in Business Administration and Economics and from Texas Tech University in 2012 with his JD and MBA. John is licensed to practice law in Texas and New Mexico and is Board Certified in Oil, Gas and Mineral Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. John is a member of the American Association of Professional Landmen and is a Certified Professional Landman.
